Great day has come! It starts. After the adrenaline that went up in the last few days. The time spent controlling and re-checking everything was not forgotten.
The adventure could start, a long transfer, the waiting times for the coincidences, the final ferry and, finally, the timing change, but in the end the dream takes shape: we are in Alaska. "The Last Frontier" as recalled on the plates on their car plates.
We are waiting for a full week in the company of the American eagle and its environment. Time to settle our things in the structure that will house us and then immediately to see where we are going to move in the coming days. The day is wonderful, there is everything we could hop, snow, ice, light and ..... eagles !!!
Haines is a small village of 2000 inhabitants that in summer doubled for tourists here to do "Whale watching", excursions of all kinds and to look for close encounters with bears. Do not miss! To look for close encounters with bears. That is not lacking!
The native people, the "Klukwan", were the first to be able to admire the eagles' show here at the Council Grounds. The eagles have shown them the richness of this territory with its abundance of salmon, and the eagle remains one of the greatest symbols of their culture.
The "Bald Eagle Preserve" is the most important protected area of Alaska. It was born in 1973, not without difficulty, and today it can count on an extension of 30 miles in length and 3 in width. Up to 6,000 nests can be counted, and in autumn, with the return of salmon, there are 3 to 4,000 individuals. It takes five years to become a true "Bald Eagle" as we can see it, perfectly white head and tail. There were cases of subjects who even in the sixth year of age had a plumage of the head not completely formed in color but were cmq sexually mature. Needless to say, its dimensions are remarkable, but what strikes most is its pride, its gaze. Not at all the United States has taken it as a symbol!
In the following days we will see her move around her environment, catch salmon, quarrel with her alike.
The atmosphere here is very peculiar, with photographers coming from everywhere, even though preponderance, playing in the house, is obviously American, but there are also Germans, Israelis and Japanese. We exchange views and ideas with simplicity and naturalness that are unknown to us. What is said to be another world. In every way.
It strikes the width of their roads, but after seeing the means they use it is understood because it affects the absolute inconsistency, at least for us, of the doors of their homes, you can safely not lock your car and be sure to find again All on our return. Just like we did.
It was a great experience and even though we are back in a few days we already miss a bit.
A sincere thank you to my friends, Giovanni Frescura and Massimo Delmonte, with whom I had the great pleasure of sharing this wonderful adventure.
